Wine Tasting Itineraries
Bordeaux Blonde’s Picks: My Highway 29
Use this route in the Trip Planner
View MapHighway 29 is perhaps the most famous, and most used, wine road in America. Here are some great places to try along this famous wine road:
First stop is the fairytale-like property of Far Niente. As soon as the grand iron gates open, you drive through a breathtaking scenery of gardens filled with colorful flowers. Not only are the grounds and the historic winery estate picturesque, but the wines are amazing. Far Niente showcases some of my favorite Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon, “Dolce” Late Harvest wine and a great crisp Chardonnay.
Further north I recommend stopping at Long Meadow Ranch Winery & Farmstead for a delicious bite to eat and a glass of Long Meadow Ranch wine. My favorite appetizer for the table is the mini ham sandwiches - they are so good! Long Meadow Ranch also offers wine tasting experiences at the Farmstead tasting room that feature their Rutherford Estate wines. If you are looking to experience even more from Long Meadow Ranch Winery, they have a beautiful mountain estate offering the "Mountain Estate Experience", located in the Mayacamas Mountain Range overlooking wine country.
Once you are finished with lunch, continue north to Faust. This newly remodeled historic farmhouse has been transformed into what is now the Faust Haus - home to some incredible Cabernet Sauvignon from the Coombsville AVA. I highly recommend tasting “The Pact” Cabernet Sauvignon, a true representation of the amazing wine being produced in this AVA. The swanky design of the outdoor tasting area is impressive, with plush green velvet vignette seating areas. Below the restored farmhouse is also a cellar room that can be booked for tastings – including barrel tastings – as well.
