For those who know him, Mark Herold is larger than life - bold, exuberant, and fueled by a contagious love of life. His wines? Same energy in a glass.
His first personal project, Merus, was a true labor of love - born in a downtown Napa garage and built into a luxury Cabernet Sauvignon brand before it was ultimately sold. A brief non-compete may have paused the Cab, but not Mark. Inspired by the great wines of France and Spain, he explored beyond Cabernet, crafting character-driven blends from regions like Lodi, Mendocino, and Lake County - even planting Tempranillo sourced from Pingus in Ribera del Duero.
Cabernet, however, is his first love, and since returning to it in 2010, Mark has been all in. Working with top vineyard sites in Coombsville, Rutherford, and Oakville, his wines capture both place and personality: powerful, expressive, and unapologetically Napa.
At our Oakville Estate tasting room, that same spirit comes to life. Yes, we make serious, luxury Cabernet, but we don’t take ourselves too seriously.
